BISMARCK, ND – Digital news media service The Dakota Dispatch, which serves the communities of Western North Dakota, has announced they are shutting down operations at the end of June. The Dakota Dispatch featured an online news portal via DakotaDispatch.com, providing regional news, sports, business, community events, and announcements. The service also published a version of the online newspaper last fall, but pulled the plug on the print version due to low advertiser interest.
The service made national news by breaking the story of Jane Fonda’s surprise Thanksgiving visit to the Dakota Access Pipeline site.
The Dakota Dispatch was operated by the Combs family of Bismarck, and co-oped sports news via it’s broadcast partner DSN. “We are deeply saddened to close the Dakota Dispatch after only a year… but the marketplace has become to competitive for us to continue” said editor Piper Combs.
