RAPID CITY, SD – Sports fans around Western South Dakota are still feeling the loss of legendary sportscaster Bob Laskowski, who passed away last October after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
“West River Bob” as he was known on-air for 45 years, did TV sports at KOTA Territory News before he transitioned into radio broadcasts. Laskowski broadcast more than 3,000 athletic events during his career.
He was especially busy in his first stint at KOTA, broadcasting games for South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City Stevens, Central and Post 22 baseball plus doing two TV sportscasts a day.
Laskowski was a six–time South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year, a member of the Rapid City Sports Hall of Fame and the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Hall of Shrine.
He won the Black Hills Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award in 2006 for promotional and charity work as MDA telethon host for eight years.
